Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter vs. Maybelline Color Whispers

When the Maybelline Color Whispers came out, I saw no point in purchasing them seeing as they appeared to be almost identical to the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters. But I was mistaken, they are actually different...

They look similar in terms of overall packaging, but the Maybelline one is slightly slimmer and taller. They both twist up in the same way.

I realise that the shades themselves are not comparable so I will try to disregard that. I honestly did not see the point in buying two similar colours. They are completely different in formula and wear time. The Revlon one is thicker and more moisturising, so I find it to last maybe 2-3 hours. It is more pigmented too, and has a minty smell. Out of the two, it is closer to a lipstick.

The Maybelline is a lot sheerer and feels like a gel-like consistency. It glides on a lot easier and gives a light hint of colour. This one is definitely more like a lip balm as it does not last long, but its so light and weightless that I don't might reapplying. It has no discernible smell/taste.

Maybe it's a bit hard to tell without actually swatching them yourself, but I think you can see that Lust For Blush is a lot more sheer.

Either way, I like them both for different reasons! If I had to pick just one, I'd go for Revlon...simply because I think the Maybelline ones are a bit expensive for what they actually are. I absolutely love Berry Smoothie and am considering extending my Colorburst family (I only have two right now, wow!).

Have you tried either of these? Do you prefer one over the other?

  1. I would have to agree with your thoughts, though Lust for Blush is a lighter shade than Berrie Smoothie so it's perhaps not the best comparison. I do prefer the Lip butters as well, I feel that they smooth over the lips better - the whispers can tend to cling to dry patches a bit.

  2. The Relvon lip butters live up to their name! I haven't tried the Maybelline whispers as I read reviews that put me off buying them.

    1. I know what you mean, I was a bit unsure but I picked one up when it was 50% off!

  3. I agree that the maybelline ones seem to be just like a lip balm so thats why I haven't bothered to hand over my money for them. Maybe if they were on sale I'd consider picking them up. But i'd rather stick to the revlon lip butters. They are amazing.

  4. Although the packaging is quite similiar, I still find the Maybelline one slightly tackier looking.

  5. I own Lust for Blush! I got it for $5 in Kmart's recent cosmetics clear-out so I am pretty happy with the quality for the price I paid. I also think it is a lovely colour! I only own one Revlon Lip Butter in Candy Apple but I would like to own more as I think they are really great quality. Buying new beauty products and saving money don't go well together unfortunately.. but more lip butters are on my wishlist!
