Seasonal makeup: blush and lipstick

I was thinking the other day how I've totally neglected some of my blushes and lippies, particularly the warmer bronze/apricot colours. I thought I'd show you what kind of colours I tend to wear in winter as opposed to summer...

DAYTIME BLUSHES
TOP ROW: WINTER
Savvy by DB blush in Rose
Arbonne blush in Blossom*

BOTTOM ROW: SUMMER
NARS blush in Luster
Sleek blush in Rose Gold

Left: Winter blushes - Savvy by DB in Rose, Arbonne blush in Blossom
Right: Summer blushes:NARS Luster  (3rd swatch), Sleek Rose Gold (4th swatch)

During winter, I definitely wear more pink toned colours. I prefer a sunkissed glow in summer, if I did that in winter, you'd be able to tell I was cheating!

 NIGHT BLUSHES
TOP: WINTER
MAC Beauty Powder Blush in Feeling
Elf Studio Blush in Berry Merry

BOTTOM: SUMMER
MAC Powder blush in Margin
Sleek Blush in Sunrise

Left: Winter blushes - MAC Feeling & Elf Berry Merry
Right:  MAC Margin (3rd swatch) and Sleek Sunrise (4th swatch)

In winter, I opt for purpley toned blushes whereas in summer, I go with bronzey/browns.

NIGHT LIPSTICKS
LEFT: SUMMER
Savvy by DB lipstick in Sugar Rose
Revlon Colorburst lipstick in Rosy Nude

RIGHT: WINTER
Revlon Colorburst lipstick in Soft Rose
Arbonne lipstick in Jam*

Left: Summer lipsticks - Savvy Sugar Rose, Revlon Rosy Nude
Right: Winter - Revlon Soft Rose, Arbonne Jam

To be honest, I don't think  night time lipsticks really change for me between seasons - it depends on my outfit, where I'm going etc...anyway, I haven't included day lipsticks because I don't find much variation between seasons, but if you're curious, check out my MLBB post!

As for foundations, I find myself wearing powder foundation and BB creams more in summer because it's too hot to wear anything heavier. In winter, I make use of my liquid foundations a lot more.

For me, my eye makeup doesn't vary much by season, but rather with my outfit and how creative/lazy I feel.

Does your makeup vary with seasons? What have you been wearing this winter?

February Empties

I hope everyone has had a great month! My month has been busy and tiring, but mostly a good month. Here are my empties...

Elizabeth Arden Splendor Perfume

Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes
China Glaze Metallic Crackle polish 'Haute Metal'
Rimmel Extra Super Lash

Elizabeth Arden perfume
I've never bought myself a perfume. I always receive them as gifts. This one is almost used up, but it has passed its expiry date of 3 years so it smells funky! While it was a nice smelling perfume, it wasn't anything unique or super special. Would I repurchase? No, I have plenty of other perfumes to use!

Simple cleansing wipes
They do an okay job of removing makeup, smell fresh and are soft to use. I generally chop and change when it comes to facial wipes and just buy whatever is cheapest!

China Glaze crackle polish
This looks full because it is...it's being chucked out though because it dried up and is unusable. Quite sad really, I've only had it for about a year and used it maybe 2-3 times. It is gorgeous when applied so I might consider buying a different shade from the collection. They are pretty cheap so I can live with the fact that they dry up so fast.

Rimmel mascara
Aw, my trusty mascara has been used up. This is one of my favourites and I've been using it for years (not the same tube of course!). It gives volume, thickness and I get compliments on how nice my lashes look when I use it. I have not repurchased this, simply because I was lured in by the $10 Covergirl Clump Crusher deal. Don't worry Rimmel, I'll be back.

What have you used up this month?

MAC 'Feeling' and E.l.f 'Berry Merry'

Just a quick post on my two favourite pink blushes! MAC's Beauty Powder Blush in Feeling and E.l.f Berry Merry. You could probably argue that these are more plum/berry toned but to keep things simple I'll just say they're pink and let you decide what colour they are.

No they're not that similar but I'm not saying they are. I'm just showing two blushes that I really like. Straight away you can see the E.l.f one is more berry toned and you can see the glitter. The MAC one does not have any shimmer or glitter.

Above are swatches for Feeling (left) and Berry Merry (right) in direct sunlight (top) and not. I've had to build up Feeling a bit more as it is quite light against my skin. The shimmer from Berry Merry doesn't appear too evident here.

This is how Feeling looks against my skin. I've used a fair bit of powder here to make it show up better. It would be really great against fairer skin tones. The brush I use picks up the powder easily and the colour can be built up. I wear this during the day for a natural pink glow and it lasts most of the day.

And this is Berry Merry. There is shimmer in this blush and it is a deeper colour that I would say is more suited to medium-dark skin tones. I wear this at night, but it doesn't take long to wear away.

Which pink blushes do you use?
