Savvy by DB Mineral Baked Blushes

I like blush. I like Priceline. So why not try out Priceline's own brand of blushes? Savvy by DB are exclusive to Priceline and I am quite a fan. They have good products for an affordable price.

These cost $9 for 5g which I think is good value. They are quite compact, they easily fit into the palm of my hand. They have a clear plastic lid which is pretty flimsy but it'll do. I couldn't photograph these well with their lids closed because of glare coming off the plastic! 

Both of these are absolutely gorgeous colours. If you get the chance to swatch them, do it! They are very pigmented and glide on easily. They are SO pretty in real life, the photos just don't do them justice.

One question I ask is - what is the significance of a baked blush? I know that with eyeshadows it means they can be used wet/dry with great pigmentation but why would anyone apply blush wet...is that even a thing? Anyway, as you can see they are very pretty colours!

One issue I have is that while they have good pigmentation, they are a bit hard to blend...it requires a bit more work to blend out the harsh lines when compared to my regular powder blushes. For this reason, I use these when I spend more time on my makeup (i.e. not for work/uni). They give a gorgeous flushed/apricot look (Blossom and Coral, respectively) with a hint of sheen. Lasting power is pretty good too - they seem to last all day!

Dupe alert: MAC Ruby Woo

Before I start, I just want to say that this is my personal opinion...I think these lipsticks are a dupe, colour-wise, for Ruby Woo.

If you read my post from a few months ago, you would be aware that I was keen to extend my collection of reds. Since then, I've acquired a few, some being quite similar in colour. And this leads me to some potential dupes for Ruby Woo...

Ruby Woo is a pretty iconic red. But, its high maintenance - if your lips are dry, it looks awful and flaky (in my experience). Its also quite drying on your lips, BUT it does last quite a long time. I wore it for a night out a few weeks ago and and found myself reapplying quite a bit because I was consuming beverages most of the night...by the time I got home at 1am, well, lets just say I looked like a hot mess! Yikes!

Ruby Woo is the most matte of these. Temptation is slightly darker, more of a crimson colour and is not a true matte finish. I think I like the Savvy one the most to be honest! It's an amazing colour and only costs about $8. 

In terms of lasting power, they are all different - the matte Savvy one is about 4-5 hours for me, with regular eating and drinking. Ruby Woo is slightly longer, except for in the example I mentioned above. The Rimmel one is not as long lasting, despite the name. 

In summary, I think they're all nice colours in their own right, and if I had to pick a favourite it would probably be the shade by Savvy. Savvy is a brand exclusive to Priceline.

Seasonal makeup: blush and lipstick

I was thinking the other day how I've totally neglected some of my blushes and lippies, particularly the warmer bronze/apricot colours. I thought I'd show you what kind of colours I tend to wear in winter as opposed to summer...

During winter, I definitely wear more pink toned colours. I prefer a sunkissed glow in summer, if I did that in winter, you'd be able to tell I was cheating!

In winter, I opt for purpley toned blushes whereas in summer, I go with bronzey/browns.

To be honest, I don't think  night time lipsticks really change for me between seasons - it depends on my outfit, where I'm going etc...anyway, I haven't included day lipsticks because I don't find much variation between seasons, but if you're curious, check out my MLBB post!

As for foundations, I find myself wearing powder foundation and BB creams more in summer because it's too hot to wear anything heavier. In winter, I make use of my liquid foundations a lot more.

For me, my eye makeup doesn't vary much by season, but rather with my outfit and how creative/lazy I feel.

Trying out Savvy by DB

Sorry for my absence in the blogging world, I've just had exams for the Masters degree I'm currently doing, but now they're finished and I've got a whole week of holidays (gosh, so much time I could travel the world). 

Anyways, at the Priceline sale a little while ago, I picked up a few Savvy products. As far as I know, this brand is exclusive to Priceline and a little bit mysterious - they don't seem to have a website!

I picked up two lipsticks, one of which I'll show you because I absolutely love it! For $3.50, I'm so happy I decided to buy it.

This lipstick is called Sugar Rose, its a gorgeous pink with a hint of shimmer. The formula is nice to apply, a little drying but that improves wear time. I've been wearing it as a MLBB lipstick quite a bit.

Now we have the mineral baked blush in Blossom. When I saw it, I instantly snatched it up, it was too pretty to ignore. This blush is a really nice colour, but I can't go overboard with it because it'll look like I've been punched in the face. The pigmentation is average, but that doesn't bother me too much because of the colour. Also, maybe I'm just crazy but I find this hard to blend?? It's hard to buff out the distinct lines from applying the blush, whereas I don't have any trouble with my other blushes so it's not my brush or my technique. For this reason, I choose not to use it on a daily basis because I don't really have any longer than 5 minutes to do my makeup each morning (if I'm going to uni that is, and lately I've barely gone anywhere else!). 

All in all, I think this is a great budget brand, I'm definitely going to try out another lipstick when my beauty ban is over. And because I'm blush crazy, I'd be interested in trying out another blush but perhaps not from the mineral baked blush range.
